Genpei Kassen

Genpei Kassen (源平合戦), literally translated as the Genpei War, is a 1994 historical simulation game developed by Koei for the Windows PC operating system. It borrows elements from the Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. As the title suggests, it illustrates the conflict between the Taira and Minamoto clans near the end of the Heian period. In 2004 and 2005, it was re-released for Windows '98~XP as a part of the real-life simulation series in Koei's 25th Year Commemoration Pack.
Players can choose to either play as Minamoto no Yoritomo, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Taira no Kiyomori, Taira no Munemori, Minamoto no Yoshinaka, Fujiwara no Hidehira, and many others during the time period. Though the source material stays faithful to history, some events are replaced with the dramatizations from The Tales of the Heike.
