The Han Dynasty was the governing body of China from 206 B.C. till the emperor was usurped by Cao Pi in 220 A.D. Its influence was already weakened years before when it was taken over by Cao Cao and the court lost all power. However, the main event that led to the beginning of the end for the Han was the Yellow Turban Rebellion. In the games, most characters serve the Han under the control of He Jin at the very beginning in the fight against the Yellow Turbans.
The Han Dynasty followed the Qin Dynasty and preceded the Three Kingdoms in China. The Han Dynasty was ruled by the prominent family known as the Liu clan. The reign of the Han Dynasty, lasting over 401 years, is commonly considered within China to be one of the greatest periods in the history of China. To this day, the ethnic majority of China still refer to themselves as the "Han people".
Liu Bei, being a Liu, held status as an imperial uncle. When the Han was officially overthrown, he declared himself Emperor of the Han in an attempt to keep the dynasty alive. From then on, Shu under Liu Bei and Liu Chan was known as the Shu-Han Dynasty.
