[edit] Role in Games
[edit] Dynasty Warriors
Xu Zhu is one of the few characters that has appeared in every Dynasty Warrior game. In most games, he is shown as a young man that lacks intelligence, yet makes up for it with his powerful strength. Upon joining Wei in the games, Xu Zhu is considered the equivalent to Dian Wei, Cao Cao's main bodyguard, and often fights alongside Dian Wei in various battles. If you aren't playing as him during a battle, he will most likely remain at Cao Cao's side, acting as a bodyguard.
In Dynasty Warriors 5 Xu Zhu appears in many battles in which he fights for Wei. His musou shows his friendship with Dian Wei and loyality to Cao Cao at numerous points, the first being at Hu Lao Gate, during which Xu Zhu will aid Dian Wei if he engages Lu Bu. If this occurs, a cutscene will appear, much similar to that in which Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei engage Lu Bu. Xu Zhu goes on to fight at Battle of Tong Gate, where he is famously able to protect Cao Cao and scare off numerous officers with his strength. Xu Zhu is one of the few officers that encounters Zuo Ci in his Musou Mode. Zuo Ci first appears at the Battle of Mt. Ding Jun, where he threatens to kill Cao Cao, greatly angering Xu Zhu. Throught the rest of his Musou Mode, Xu Zhu has to protect Cao Cao by chasing Zuo Ci around, and eventually killing. His ending scene in Dynasty Warriors 5 shows Xu Zhu reflecting on the war, which took the lives of the two men Xu Zhu looked up to the most: Dian Wei and Cao Cao. Xu Zhu eventually moves on from his depression, and aids a group of soldiers in moving a boulder.
In Dynasty Warriors 6, Xu Zhu appears as one of the Free Mode only characters. Although he has no Story Mode, Xu Zhu does appear in various battles along the side of Cao Cao, including the Battle of Chi Bi and the Battle of He Fei.
[edit] Warriors Orochi
Xu Zhu appeares in the first Wei level, Kuzegawa, acting as gatekeeper for the resistance force lead by Huang Gai. Xu Zhu had been duped into joining at first with the promise of food, but Huang Gai had ordered that they wouldn't be fed until they defeated the suppression force led by Cao Pi and Mitsunari Ishida. After being defeated, Cao Pi tells his men not to imprison Xu Zhu, but instead give him food to pacify him. Post battle, Xu Zhu begs for Cao Pi's forgiveness and rejoins Wei. Xu Zhu believes that if Cao Cao were there, he'd be able to solve everything.
[edit] Character Information
[edit] Personality
Xu Zhu is a gentle-hearted giant who is a uniquely jolly man in Wei. He's a glutinous fellow and often cites being hungry in someway during conversations. Though he seems to possess a childish intellect, his respect for his lord's generosity and wit makes him a loyal subject. In spite of his strength in battle, he actually doesn't like fighting or people being aggressive towards one another. He sees people who oppose his lord as bullies or braggarts who "just can't get along".
He's friends with Dian Wei as both men are practical in their duties and simple minded. If his friend dies, Xu Zhu will be saddened by the news.
On account of his kind heart, Xu Zhu lacks rivals in the game, only being angered if someone opposes his lord, Cao Cao. This is represented in Dynasty Warriors 5, in which Xu Zhu develops a short term rivalry with Zuo Ci, due to the fact that Ci opposes Cao Cao's power, and threatens to kill him.
